Church School
Sunday Church School
From September to May, children from age 4-18 W.O.R.M. their way
through most of the Bible. W.O.R.M. (Workshop Rotation Method) is
the most fun and exciting thing to have wiggled its way into our
Church School. During each rotation of 4-6 weeks, the children will
experience a bible story presented in a variety of ways and have
the opportunity to rotate through the different activity centres.
Church School News: We are currently doing the
rotation Caring for Creation prior to breaking for the summer (May
4th to June 15th). In this rotation, we will be exploring ways in
which we can care for our world, our gift from God. Karen Martinoski
is shepherding the youth Grade 4 and up and Elan Buan will be shepherding
the Pre-K to Grade 3 youth with help from Morgan Dumville. The Senior
High program will wrap up following Mother’s Day, but they
are welcome to join one of the other two groups as we begin to study
and get ready to do a theatrical presentation of Dr. Suess’s
story, “The Lorax”.
June 15th, Father’s Day, the church school
will be presenting “The Lorax” to the congregation at
our outdoor service. The outdoor service will be held at Rotary
Park, and will be followed by a picnic and games. Please bring a
salad, cold main course, or dessert to share as well as your own
dishes, cutlery, cups, beverages, and lawn chairs. Ice cream and
cones will be provided.
We will also be recognizing all the volunteers who have helped
with the church school ministry over the 2007/2008 year.
Through songs, stories and various activities children and youth
will engage in our current Rotation “The World’s a Gift
…Let’s Take Care of It” - May 4th – June
15th
Then beginning June 22nd S.P.L.A.S.H., our children’s summer
program returns for another year. Come join in Sacred Play, Laughter,
Adventures, and Sharing aHas! June 22nd – August 3rd we will
engage “The Stories of Jesus”. And then August 10th
– September 7th we’ll venture with Joseph “Way
Down in Egypt”.
If you can volunteer for any of the following roles throughout
the church school year, please contact Fran or Brenda at the church
(347-2244), or Elan (email); or
Sasha Lernowich (through the office) regarding the Nursery. Feel
free to contact us if you would like to help in some way, but don’t
know how, don’t know what is involved, or can only make a
small commitment as we would love to hear from you.
Shepherd – Is an adult that will stay with a class during
the rotation (usually 4-6 weeks). He/she will gather the children
for story telling and discussion as well as attendance and collection.
Shepherds may also lead a craft or activity. If you would like to
shepherd, but can’t commit to a full rotation, you may team
up with another person.
Workshop Leader – Moves to each classroom during a rotation.
They will plan and implement activities that correspond with the
story the Shepherd has told the children. You can bring an idea,
story, talent that you would like to share or we can provide one
for you. In the past workshop leaders have done crafts, puppets,
cooking, theatre, discussion and story telling, and even knot tying!
Workshop Leaders are not necessarily committed to each Sunday of
the rotation.
Lead Shepherd – Supports and oversees the shepherds and workshop
leaders of the rotation. They work in conjunction with the ministry
staff to provide information materials and set up an orientation
for the group. The Lead Shepherd also collects the offering baskets,
records attendance, and is the main contact person for shepherds
and workshop leaders during a rotation.
Nursery
Nursery nurture and care is provided for newborns to 3 year olds
during the weekly service of worship. The Nursery is a bright, friendly
place, well stocked with toys and activities. Adult volunteers along
with several teen helpers provide care and activities each week.
