In this section, you’ll find up-to-date news and schedules for all of the groups and events at Gaetz!

General News and Announcements

On Sunday, June 15th we are hosting an Outdoor Worship Service, Church, church School Recognition, Picnic and Games at Rotary Park. The Church School will lead the service; Children’s Ministry volunteers will be recognized and then everyone can enjoy a Potluck Picnic and games for all ages. Please bring a salad, cold main course, or dessert to share as well as your own dishes, cutlery, cups, beverages and lawn chairs. If you have extra lawn chairs, please bring them for the use of those without. Ice cream cones will be supplied. For more info contact the Church Office.

On Thursday and Friday afternoons, June 26th & 27th you may open yourself to the fruits of your spirit through a variety of playful creative activities. Adults, youth and children are invited to register for Seasons of Fruitfulness: Sunshine of the Soul; come for one afternoon or both. Cost for materials is $6 per day or $10 for both days. For more info or to register, contact Brenda. Registration deadline is Monday, June 23rd.

The Wein’s World Scholarship - This scholarship was initiated two years ago to honour a High School student who is an active participant at Gaetz and has made a significant contribution to the life of the congregation. If there is a youth whom you wish to nominate this year, please submit your letter of recommendation to the Gaetz Church Board by June 30th, 2008.

Would you like to donate to the Kasota Campership Fund? This fund is used to sponsor children & youth who cannot afford to attend. Donation envelopes are available on the Literature Rack in the Narthex.

Camp Kasota East offers camping sessions for children and youth (K-Gr 9) as well as families, throughout the summer. If these options don't apply you can always try a CIT session (counsellor in training). Camp brochures and registration forms are available in the Narthex or at the Church Office.

If you are interested in submitting photos for 2010 bulletins, check the entry form on the literature rack. Deadline is June 27th, 2008.

Gaetz United Church Men’s Breakfast - Our next First Friday Breakfast will be June 6, 7:00 a.m. at Smitty’s, on 67th Street at 65th Avenue (by the Holiday Inn). All men welcome! Call Paul at 340-8522 for further information.

Provincially Certified Safe Food Handling – a 2 – day course (9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) held at Red Deer Moose Lodge. Cost is $75. Upcoming dates are June 2 & 9. Call 341-2155 to register. (more info at the Church Office)

One of the PACE Committees up-coming projects is the replacement of the outside doors on Ross Street (office, sanctuary, and vestry doors). Donations are gratefully accepted for this – please place on the offering plate or drop off at the Church office.

Rummage Sale – on June 12th & 13th. Please have your treasures to the church by June 10th.

New & Different! Steak and Hamburger BBQ & Silent Auction – on Friday, June 20th. Mark it on your calendars. Tickets available starting on June 1st. Full Meal deal – steak $12, hamburger $8

KEC (Kasota East Camp) Spuds & Splitz Fundraiser on Friday, June 6th at Sunnybrook United Church from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Join us for a baked potato and an ice cream sundae, each with your choice of toppings, entertainment by KE staff and alumni and silent auction on one of four deluxe “Experience Summer” packages. Tickets: $8/Adult, $6/Youth (16 and under), $30/Family (5), Free/Under 5.


Prayer Shawls: There are prayer shawls available to give to people who need to feel surrounded by our prayers and God’s love. When you take a shawl, please write into the book provided who the recipient is.

Volunteers are needed to operate the powerpoint presentation on Sunday mornings. If you would be willing to take a turn, please speak with Brenda, Fran or contact the Church Office – 347-2244.

  • Sunday Church School: June 15th, Father’s Day, the church school will be presenting “The Lorax” to the congregation at our outdoor service. The outdoor service will be held at Rotary Park, and will be followed by a picnic and games. Please bring a salad, cold main course, or dessert to share as well as your own dishes, cutlery, cups, beverages, and lawn chairs. Ice cream and cones will be provided.

    We will also be recognizing all the volunteers who have helped with the church school ministry over the 2007/2008 year. The Church School shedule can be viewed here.

      Plan to attend our year-end celebration. We will gather at 6:00 p.m. in Coronation Park (East of the Church on Ross Street) at the Mickey The Beaver bronze statue. Come dressed to engage in outdoor activities such as a scavenger hunt and games. We will be walking up to the Little Ice and Soda Shoppe for dessert. Cost: $10.00/person.   • Book Club: Looking for a good read this summer? The Book Club recommends “Pillars of the Earth” by Ken Follett. This historical novel chronicles the building of a great cathedral during the Middle Ages in England. It’s a struggle between good and evil that will turn church against state, and siblings against each other. For more information please contact Brenda, 347-2244.

  • A.O.T.S.: celebrates the 100th Anniversary of St Stephen’s College at our June 2nd meeting, beginning with a pot-luck dinner at 6:29 p.m., followed by a hymn-sing and a presentation by Elinor Townend (St. Stephen’s Friend), Earle Sharam (President and Academic Dean) and Nancy Chegus (recent M.T.S. grad). St Stephen’s had had a significant part in the education of people like Jim Roberts and Fran Hare, and Brenda Kersell continues to take courses there. You might like to attend this gathering and find out why!

  • Prostate Awareness Group Exchange:
  • meet in the parlour of Gaetz Memorial United Church at 7:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month (this coming Thursday). This group has a great deal of experience and information to share. Knowing about the prostate, symptoms of prostate cancer, and other prostate diseases can save your life. Men and spouses are welcome.
